Dave and I watched this one for an extra credit opportunity for my sociology class...it's about a couple who are determined to find relief for their ALD inflicted 5year old boy, an illness that is incurable and not well known. Since all other children with ALD die relatively soon after they are diagnosed, the parents are frantic to find out any information they can on treatment. After faulty diets and many doctors, etc, they finally decide to take matters into their own hands and so their own research. Eventually, they discover a treatment (olive oil)that works, and by the end of the film they help many other families with ALD boys.
It's a great movie, very touching, but best of all, it's based on a true story. In fact, you can look at the progress Lorenzo has made on the internet. He's still living and he's in his late 20's. He's still paralyzed, but he has strengthed enough to communicate through technology. It's a pretty awesome story. |
